PBS Welcomes Volunteers from the Laotian American Society Saturday, August 12, 2006.  On a rainy afternoon, the women from Laotian American Society volunteered at Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) to answer telephones from 3:30 – 8:00 pm. The LAS volunteers included Cookie, Ann, Sheena, Vong and LAS friend Mary.

“Thank you for calling Georgia Public Broadcasting. How may I take I take your pledge?” echoes the GPB studio as volunteers answered telephone and took pledges during the August Television Membership Campaign. All the volunteers were given a 30 minute training course before we were able to answer our first call. The telethon provided a great opportunity for LAS to get involved in the community and contribute to GPB family . Overall, the women of LAS did a great job in collecting pledges and had fun talking to people on the phone. When asked if we would like to volunteer again at GPB, the women unanimously and enthusiastically said YES! Thanks to all the GPB friendly staff who provided us with food and snacks during our four shift and break period. We hope to get 24 people signed-up in order for us to go LIVE so we can wear our organizational t-shirt and bring in a banner. We hope to see you there in December!
