The Laotian American
Society is a non-profit organization committed to being a resource to all people
of ethnic origins native to Laos or have ties to Lao culture and heritage in
order to improve their quality of life, education, health, and welfare by organizing
and sponsoring educational, cultural, social, and other related activities as
well as promoting communication and education about issues related to the Laotian
community.

Golden Seven, a new Asian restaurant has opened in Duluth, GA. The menu has Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese items, as well as Lao dishes available upon special request (som tum, sticky rice, larb gai, pho). It is family owned and run, headed by Ms. Meily Phaiboun, a Laotian-American lady who has been in the restaurant business since 1990. This is their second restaurant in the Metro Atlanta area. Golden Seven's chef also has over 25 years experience in the restaurant business.

Students, listen up! Even though school is letting out, please keep up your studies and don't forget that the LAS Education Award Ceremony is coming up, to be held sometime in the late summer. Grade school children can receive awards for Straight A's and other academic accolades. We will also continue to have our Art and Poetry Contest.

Laotian American College students, please brush up on your essay writing skills, as this is a chance to receive money for school through LAS.
In 2007, LAS gave out thousands of dollars back to the community, which was raised by the Charity Ball as well as donations from our generous sponsors. More information and the scholarship application package will be posted when ready.

LAS would like to announce that a date has been chosen for a senior citizen / family outing at the Georgia Aquarium. This trip is made possible by the grant received from Chopstix for Charity, which was applied for by LAS member and Treasurer Mr. Song Senboutaraj.
At the moment we are still looking for more volunteers to help with our elderly guests as well as prepare for the picnic afterwards. If you would like to help or would like more information please contact:

On Saturday, May 3, 2008, LAS attended the 23rd Annual APAC Banquet. The Asian Pacific American Council of Georgia was established in 1985, and acts as an umbrella organization for over 10 Asian/Pacific American groups in Georgia. Some member groups include: BAG, OCA, MAG, KAAGA, TAWC, TAA, ICHF, IACA, CPACS and LAS.
The next APAC event will be a soccer tournament, to be held in July of this year. Details are being finalized, but LAS would like to make an appearance again, competing against several other teams/countries. More info as it is released from APAC.

Dao Malaythong, longtime LAS member and supporter, was named as one of the 25 most influential Asians in Georgia, in the May issue of the Georgia Asian Times. This coincided with Asian American Heritage month, which nationally recognizes May as a time to celebrate Asian and Pacific American cultures and their contributions to America.
