Laotian American Society (LAS) is thrilled to announce that we have received a $5,000 grant from the UPS Foundation for our Education and Cultural Programs!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAOTIAN AMERICAN SOCIETY RECEIVES $5,000 GRANT FROM THE UPS FOUNDATION

Norcross, GA — 11/2/2014 — Laotian American Society received a $5,000 grant from the UPS Foundation, which drives global corporate citizenship and philanthropic programs for UPS (NYSE:UPS).

The grant will be used towards LAS’s many programs such as the Education Program, which encourages higher education amongst Laotian-American students through tutoring, Lao language programs, and the yearly Education Award Ceremony which gives scholarships to qualified and outstanding students. The grant will also support the Cultural Program, headlined by our Traditional Dance Group. One of LAS’s most successful and known programs, it has given children to showcase their heritage through song and dance.

“Laotian American Society’s mission is to preserve our unique culture, promote education on all levels, and spread awareness and understanding in our very multicultural state of Georgia. This grant allows LAS to continue to help our students and community in their academic endeavors, so that they can learn and grow and help become great contributors and leaders in the mosaic of America.” –LAS Youth Mentoring, Boon Vong

Established in 1951 and based in Atlanta, GA, The UPS Foundation identifies specific areas where its backing clearly impacts social issues. In support of this strategic approach, The UPS Foundation has identified the following focus areas for giving: volunteerism, diversity, community safety and the environment.

In 2013, UPS and its employees, active and retired, invested more than $102 million in charitable giving around the world. The UPS Foundation can be found on the web at UPS.com/foundation. To get UPS news direct, visit pressroom.ups.com/RSS.

“The UPS Foundation is honored to support the Laotian American Society’s efforts to promote education and cultural preservation in thier community,” said Eduardo Martinez, president of The UPS Foundation. “Our goal is to fund powerful programs that make a lasting difference to the global community.”

Laotian American Society Honored by Wells Fargo through ‘Days of Giving’

Laotian American Society (LAS) was honored by Wells Fargo with a $1,000 grant at the Days of Giving celebration in East Atlanta on Oct. 21.

Laotian American Society was among 44 groups chosen by the bank’s team members for the recognition in East Atlanta.  The donation helped push total giving to more than $1.5 million across Georgia since the program’s beginning six years ago.

Falcons great Buddy Curry got the group off its feet with football exercises and then presented his five “core life principles” – sportsmanship, integrity, excellence, perseverance and teamwork.

Perseverance is the most important,” he said. “Never ever quit.”

Wells Fargo East Atlanta President Carol Morris led the ceremony.  “To some a $1,000 grant may seem small, but we know each of these great groups will be able to make a huge difference with this,” she said.  “And collectively this will have a major impact in our community.”

Added Jill Edwards, Wells Fargo business banking manager, “This is one way we are trying to be the best local bank in West Atlanta.”

The recognition event took place at the Sonesta Gwinnett Place in Duluth.

Wells Fargo also announced that its metro Atlanta employees gave or pledged $1.8 million this fall in the United Way and Community Support campaign – 24 percent more than last year.
